Dying Light 2: Stay Human is a role-playing survival horror video game. It is the successor to Dying Light and is set two decades later. The game is immensely popular among the fans of this genre. Dying Light 2 allows players to perform multiple actions, such as sliding, leaping off from edges, and wall running. Developed by Techland, it features the story of the protagonist, Aiden Caldwell, and his endless search for Mia, his little sister. The huge popularity of this game led the developers to release it on multiple platforms. However, one question that is on the minds of avid gamers is whether Dying Light 2 is cross-platform. The previous version wasn’t. Let’s find the answer to this below.

The cross-play feature enables players to play the game with those on other devices. For example, someone playing Dying Light 2 on a PC can play it with someone on  Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch. But is it possible to play the game this way? The answer is not yet. According to Tymon Smektala, the director of the Dying Light Franchise, making the game cross-platform is currently a complex technical challenge. The developers are not sure if they can deliver the game this way. Although it is something that the team at Techland is ‘considering’, their priorities are elsewhere. The major focus of the developers is to make the game more feature-rich and entertaining.

Does Dying Light 2 Offer Cross-progression Support?

Does Dying Light 2 Offer Cross-progression Support?

Yes, Dying Light 2 offers cross-progress or co-op support. It means that players on an Xbox One can play it with those on versions of the device, such as Xbox Series X/S. Similarly, those on PlayStation 4 can play the game with those on PlayStation 5. To make things clear, players currently cannot enjoy the game with their friends on other platforms. However, if your friends are on a different version of the same gaming device, you can play it with them.

Will Dying Light 2 Offer Crossplay Support in the Future?

Unfortunately, we don’t have an answer to this at the moment. Smektala says that the dream of making the Dying Light 2 crossplay is still there, and we cannot comment on it right now. The director’s honesty is appreciable. At least, we can be sure that the game’s developers are not making false promises to fans. Note that during its initial launch, Dying Light 2 did not offer cross-generation support. However, the company eventually added that into the game. Thus, we still have hopes for the game to provide cross-platform support soon, although when that will be isn’t something we are certain of.

Cross-platform is popular among video game enthusiasts. It makes way for a more diverse and interconnected gaming community and experience. Now that Techland has made Dying Light 2 co-op, making it crossplay will benefit the game. Techland continues to update the game with new features. This makes the players keep returning to see what has changed after their last session. Crossplay for Dying Light 2 will help the video game community across different devices connect better and have an even more exciting experience.

In 2024, Dying Light 2 received two major updates, taking its charm to new levels. The first was the Firearms Update, and the second was an additional way to play in the Nightmare Mode.

Firearms Update (February 22, 2024)

Firearms Update came about as a celebration of Dying Light 2’s second anniversary. The update enhanced the game in multiple areas. It gives players access to several new weapons to dismantle their opponents. At the same time, this update also fixes various technical glitches, further improving the user experience. Throughout 2023, Techland attentively listened to the feedback of the gamers. This enabled them to release the Firearms Update, featuring an array of weapons to enable the gamers to progress to new levels.

Here is a list of everything that is a part of the Firearms Update.

  • Survivor and Elite Missions
  • New weapons, such as rifles, shotguns, pistols, and SMGs.
  • Special Anniversary Bounties to earn rewards and celebrate the franchise.
  • 11 new nocturnal weapons
  • A new enemy for Aiden Caldwell, Renegade Grenadier. Existing enemies have also been improved and made smarter!
  • Environmental upgrades in the form of a better foliage system, more variety to building interiors, and more.
  • Five new legend-level improvements
  • Game updates, technical and UI fixes.

Firearms Update (April 18, 2024)

Dying Light fans will remember the Nightmare Mode of the game’s previous version. Dying Light 2 released Nightmare Mode, too, giving players more challenges to solve. As usual, the developers listened to the feedback and found that most players yearned for additional challenges. Thus, Nightmare Mode comes with an increased level of difficulty. In other words, this mode is for hardcore veteran players. According to Techland, in the Nightmare Mode, players need to rely on their ears and eyes, instead of checking UI markers. The special infected types in Dying Light 2, called the Volatiles are a lot more dangerous in this mode.

Nightmare Mode in the current version of the game has novel features compared to the same mode in the original game version. The Tactical Stamina reduces stamina regeneration. It makes running harder. Travelling at night also becomes more dangerous in this mode as the Inhibitors provide less immunity. Chases are more intense and another fifth level is added, leading to the emergence of stronger and quicker Volatile Tyrants. As such, the Nightmare Mode can seem miserable to the novice player. But that is exactly where the fun lies for seasoned gamers. With this new mode, Dying Light 2: Stay Human promises a deeper level of immersion.
